On September 26, 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana through video conferencing. This initiative by the Government of Bihar benefited 75 lakh women across the state.

During the programme, the Prime Minister directly transferred ₹10,000 each into the bank accounts of these women. This massive ₹7,500 crore transfer marked the beginning of the scheme.

What is Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

The scheme aims to make women self-reliant (Aatmanirbhar) and create new livelihood opportunities.

  • Initial Grant: Each woman will get ₹10,000 as seed money.
  • Future Support: Women may receive up to ₹2 lakh in later phases.
  • Flexibility of Use: Beneficiaries can invest in:
    • Agriculture and allied activities
    • Animal husbandry like dairy, poultry, and goat farming
    • Tailoring, weaving, and handicrafts
    • Small shops and other micro enterprises

Why is this scheme important?

First, it gives women economic independence. Many households depend on women’s earnings. This support helps them stand on their own.

Second, it boosts the rural economy. When women invest in farming or crafts, the whole community benefits.

Third, it encourages entrepreneurship. Instead of one-time aid, the scheme pushes women to create businesses that generate steady income.

Moreover, it ensures community support. Self-Help Group (SHG) resource persons will guide and train women in running small ventures.

Finally, it improves market access. The state will expand Gramin Haat-Bazaars to help women sell their products easily.

Statewide Participation

The launch will not stay limited to one event. It will run at district, block, cluster, and village levels. Over 1 crore women will take part and witness this programme. As a result, the scheme will reach the grassroot level from day one.

The Bigger Picture: Women Empowerment in India

India already has several schemes for women’s empowerment. For example:

  • Ujjwala Yojana provides free LPG connections.
  • MUDRA Yojana gives loans to small entrepreneurs.
  • DAY-NRLM supports rural Self-Help Groups.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana adds to this list. However, it stands out because of its scale and its direct focus on livelihood creation in Bihar.

How This Will Change Lives

  • A woman may buy a sewing machine with ₹10,000 and start tailoring.
  • Another may purchase goats or chickens to begin dairy or poultry farming.
  • Groups of women may weave or craft products and sell them at rural markets.

In each case, the scheme will improve income, build confidence, and inspire more women to start their own ventures.

Conclusion

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is not just about money. It combines financial support, training, and market access to build a foundation for long-term empowerment.

With ₹7,500 crore reaching women’s bank accounts in the first phase, the scheme shows a strong commitment to women’s progress. Therefore, it promises to transform Bihar’s rural economy and create a new wave of women entrepreneurs.
