The Civil Registration System (CRS), commonly known as the Birth and Death Registration System, is a crucial process that records important life events—birth, death, and stillbirth—on a continuous and permanent basis. It operates under the legal framework of India and falls under Entry 30 of the Concurrent List in the Constitution.

The special feature of this new portal is that it allows old birth registrations as well. Ideally, a birth should be registered within 21 days of a child’s birth. However, if you have delayed the registration—whether by 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, or even 15-20 years—you can still apply for a birth certificate through this portal.

Step By Step Process to Get Birth Certificate Online

Step 1: Visit CRS Portal, Click on the “General Public” option under the login button.

Step 2: If you already have an account, you can log in using either your email or mobile number. or Click on the “Sign Up” button to create a new account.

  •  Fill in your general information, including your name, gender, and date of birth, then click “Next.”
  •  Enter your address details and select whether you’re located in India or outside India, then click “Next.”
  •  Provide your Aadhar number and nationality. Don’t forget to check the checkbox before clicking “Next.”
  • Authenticate your mobile number and email ID through an OTP. After that, click the “Register” button.
  • Your account is now successfully created, and you can log in to the portal using your email ID or mobile number.

Step 3: Once logged in, click on “Report Birth.”

Step 4: Fill out the required details under the “Legal Information” and “Statistical Information” tabs.

Step 5: Review and confirm the legal and statistical information, check the box to confirm, and then click the “Submit” button.

Step 6: Click on “Proceed to Payment” to pay the registration fee online.

Step 7: Enter the applicant’s name and go to the “Event Type” section to select “Birth.” Choose the appropriate option based on the child’s age for whom you’re applying. For example, select “within 21 days” if applying within that time frame. If there’s a delay, select one of the options for delayed applications.

Once you make a selection, the payable amount will be calculated automatically. You then proceed with the payment, and as soon as the payment is completed, the acknowledgment receipt is generated.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email.If you check your email, you will see that the reference number for the birth registration has been generated.Additionally, once the birth certificate is approved, you will receive a notification via SMS and email.
