How to link / Update Email ID in Aadhar Card Free
The UIDAI has announced that from 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2026, there will be no fee for linking, changing, or updating an email ID in Aadhaar.
UIDAI has now started allowing users to update their email ID online. It means, If you have not linked an email ID to your Aadhaar yet, you can now do it completely free of cost.
In addition, the new Aadhaar mobile application now includes a feature to add or update an email ID directly from your phone. This means you no longer need to visit an Aadhaar center. Earlier, updating an email ID required a visit to the center, but now the entire process can be completed through the Aadhaar app.
Free Email ID Update Available Until 31 December 2026
UIDAI has made this service completely free through the Aadhaar App from 1 July 2026 for a period of six months. During this promotional period, residents can add, change, or update their email address in Aadhaar without paying any fee.

Step 1: Install and Open the Aadhaar App
- Download the Aadhaar app from the Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Open the app.
- Allow the required permissions for Camera, SMS, and Phone Calls.
Step 2: Register in the App
- Tap Continue to Register.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- Accept the terms and conditions.
- Select any SIM card currently inserted in your phone and verify it through SMS.
Step 3: Complete Face Authentication
- Tap Start Face Authentication.
- Remove glasses if you are wearing them.
- Look into the camera.
- Blink your eyes twice when prompted.
Step 4: Set Your Security PIN
- Create a 6-digit PIN.
- Confirm the same PIN.
- You may also enable biometric login if you wish.
Step 5: Add or Update Email ID
- Go to Services.
- Select Add/Update Email ID.
- Tap Continue to Update Email ID.
- Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Enter the new email ID you want to link.
- Tap Send OTP.
- Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your email.
- Verify the email OTP.
Step 6: Final Face Verification
After email verification, the app will again ask for face authentication. Scan your face and blink your eyes as instructed.
Once the verification is successful, your request will be submitted and you will receive an acknowledgement receipt.
How to Track Your Request
Open the Aadhaar app and go to Track Request.
You will be able to see:
- Request status
- Verification status
- Acknowledgement number
- The email ID update request details
Important Notes
- The email OTP remains valid for 10 minutes.
- Duplicate requests cannot be submitted while an earlier request is already in progress.
- The email ID is linked to Aadhaar only after successful verification and validation.
- You can download the acknowledgement receipt as a PDF from the app.
