The Government of India has made an important change in the Aadhaar card system. Earlier, Aadhaar cards used to display the name of the father or husband under the “Care Of” (C/o) section. But now, this option has been removed.

This has raised questions:

  • Will the father’s or husband’s name no longer appear on Aadhaar?
  • How can corrections be made if the name is wrong?

The answer is yes, you can still update or correct the father’s or husband’s name, but the process has changed.

How to Update Father / Husband Name in Aadhar Card Online?

Now, corrections related to father’s or husband’s name must be done through the Head of Family (HOF) method. In this process:

Step 1: Login on the portal:

Step2 : Choose Update Option:

    • Select “Update Address via Head of Family (HOF).”
    • The existing address will appear, and you’ll need to provide the Aadhaar details of your father, husband, mother, or guardian.

Step 3 : Enter Head of Family Details:

    • Provide the Aadhaar number of your father, husband, or guardian.
    • Their registered mobile number must be linked with Aadhaar for verification.
    • Select the relationship type (Father, Spouse, etc.).

Step 4 : Upload Supporting Document or Declaration:

    • You can upload documents like birth certificate, ration card, passport, marriage certificate, or caste certificate.
    • If you don’t have documents, you can use a Self-Declaration Form (provided by UIDAI). This form must be filled, signed by the Head of Family, scanned, and uploaded.

Step 5 : Pay the Fee:

    • A correction fee of ₹50 must be paid online via debit/credit card, UPI, net banking, or wallet.
    • After payment, you’ll receive an SRN number and acknowledgement slip.

Step 6: Final Verification by Head of Family:

    • The Head of Family (whose Aadhaar number was used) must log in separately.
    • They will enter the SRN number and approve the request.
    • Once approved, the correction request goes to UIDAI for final processing.

How Long Does It Take?

  • UIDAI officially mentions up to 60 days.
  • But usually, the update is completed within 10–15 days.
  • You will get an SMS notification once the update is successful.

Important Points to Remember

  • The old “Care Of” section has been removed. You cannot directly type any name.
  • Now, the Head of Family’s Aadhaar and consent are compulsory to update the father’s or husband’s name.
  • If the father or husband has passed away, the update can still be done if their Aadhaar is active. In case the Aadhaar is cancelled after submission of the death certificate, then changes cannot be made.
  • Documents must be uploaded in scanned original form (not photocopies). If front and back details are separate, merge them into one PDF.

Conclusion

Now, updating father’s or husband’s name in Aadhaar is possible only through the Head of Family method. This change ensures better verification and prevents misuse. Though the process involves more steps, it is still simple and can be completed online with a small fee.
