In the world, Aadhaar is the largest biometric identification system. Mostly, the aadhaar card is used as identification proof of the general public in offices, banks or for taking benefit of government schemes. It is a card that consists of your information such as name, gender, date of birth, address, and a 12-digit unique number.
Every person resident in India must have an Aadhaar card. To apply for the Aadhaar card and for any update the Government of India has a UIDAI portal, through the portal people can make changes in address and for other changes, they have to visit the nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra. To update the Aadhaar card, the individual must have the required documents as per the change. Below are the documents that you can use in the updation process.
Stepwise Process of Updating Documents in Aadhaar Card
Step 1 : From the Home Page of UIDAI, click on My Aadhaar > Update Your Aadhar > Document update.
Step 2 : Click on ‘Click To Submit”. Enter the Aadhaar Number and Captcha and click on Send OTP. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, fill it in and click on Login.
Step 3 : Your demographic details will appear such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth and Address. If there is any mismatch in your details, submit the document to your nearest Aadhaar centre or online through the option ‘click here’.
Step 4 : The document size should be less than 2 MB. Supported file formats are JPEG, PNG and PDF.
Step 5 : Upload the Proof of Identity and Proof of Address Document, and select the valid document type. Click on Next.
Step 6 : Pay the fees for changes. The status of the fee will appear, with Aadhaar Acknowledgement. Download the Acknowledgement for future reference.
Steps for Mobile Number Updation in Aadhaar Card
- Visit the website of UIDAI, click on My Aadhaar > Aadhaar Services > Verify Email/Mobile Number.
- Enter your Aadhaar Number, Mobile Number and Captcha, Click on Send OTP.
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. If the Mobile number is incorrect, it will show the message “The Mobile number you have entered does not match our records”.
- To update the mobile number, visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You can find an Aadhaar Kendra through the website by filling in your location. Also, you can book an appointment to change the Mobile number as well as Email. There is no extra charge for adding an email with a Mobile number. Don’t need a document for the update.
Offline Process For Aadhaar Updation
To update the aadhaar card details offline, visit the nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Follow the below steps for an offline update on aadhaar card:
- Fill out the form for correction. Enter the information which is correct (mentioned in your other documents).
- Attach the self-attested copies of proof that validate the request.
- For every visit or change you have to pay a fee to the centre.
Note: you can update your biometric details only by visiting the enrolment centre. Check the list of aadhaar centres through the UIDAI website.
Documents Required for Aadhaar Card Updation

Note: Any one of the following documents can be used for updating the identity and address. The documents can be submitted online on myAadhaar portal or by visiting any Aadhaar centre near you.
Check the Status of Aadhaar Card Update
- On the Home Page, click on My Aadhaar > Update Your Aadhaar > Check Update Aadhaar Status.
- Enter the Enrolment ID/ Service Request Number/ Update Request Number. Enter Captcha, and click on Submit.
- The status of your Aadhaar will appear on the screen.
Through an online portal, you can only update the address and documents. For any other update such as a change in biometrics, you have to an Aadhaar Seva Kenda. There is a limit on updation such as you can update your name twice in your lifetime, gender and date of birth once in your lifetime.
