India is gearing up for one of its biggest innovation movements in schools – Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025. This nationwide hackathon is designed to inspire creativity and problem-solving skills among school students from classes 6 to 12. With more than 1 crore students expected to participate, the event aims to nurture young innovators who can contribute to building a self-reliant and prosperous India.

What is Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025?

The initiative is being organised by the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.

The hackathon encourages students to build ideas or working prototypes under four national themes:

• Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India): Building self-reliant systems, tools, and solutions.
• Swadeshi (Indigenous Solutions): Fostering indigenous ideas, knowledge systems, and innovation
• Vocal for Local (Promoting Local Innovation): Promoting Local Product and Resources
• Samriddh Bharat (Prosperous India): Creating pathways to prosperity and sustainable development
  

The goal is to give students hands-on experience in innovation while promoting inclusivity by involving schools from tribal, rural, aspirational districts, and remote areas.

What are the Objectives of Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025

To empower these young aspiring entrepreneurs, the Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out a transformative initiative — the CM Yuva Udyami Yojana. This youth-centric entrepreneurship program provides interest-free financial support to help young individuals turn their business ideas into reality. 

Buildathon 2025 Timeline

Here’s the complete schedule for the event:

• September 23, 2025 – Official launch by Hon’ble Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan
• Sept 23 – Oct 11, 2025 – Team registrations on the portal
• Oct 11 – Oct 12, 2025 – Preparatory workshops, mentoring, brainstorming sessions, and idea camps
• October 13, 2025 – Nationwide Synchronized Live Buildathon (all schools participate via live streaming)
• Oct 13 – Oct 31, 2025 – Submission of projects (ideas/prototypes) by schools on the portal
• Nov 1 – Dec 31, 2025 – Expert evaluation of entries
• January 2026 – National-level winners announced and felicitated
  

Key Highlights of the Buildathon

• Dedicated Portal – All registrations and project submissions will take place on the official portal: vbb.mic.gov.in.
• Team Participation – Students must form teams of 3–5 members. No limit on teams per school.

How to Register in Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025

Registration is simple and open to all school students of India (Classes 6–12). Here’s the step-by-step process:

1. Form a Team – Groups of 3 to 5 students from the same school.
2. Register Online – Teachers or schools must register teams on the portal vbb.mic.gov.in. A unique registration ID will be generated.
3. Choose a Theme – Select one theme out of the four (Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, Vocal for Local, Samriddh Bharat).
4. Brainstorm & Innovate – Identify a local or national problem and work on a creative solution or prototype.
5. Prepare a Video Submission – Record a 2–5 minute video explaining:
   • The problem identified
   • The proposed solution/prototype
   • How it works
   • Its possible impact
6. Submit Your Entry – Upload the video on the portal between October 13 – October 31, 2025.

Awards and Recognition

The Buildathon comes with a huge Awards Pool of ₹1 Crore, distributed as follows:

• 10 National Winners
• 100 State Winners
• 1000 District Winners
  

Beyond cash prizes, winning teams will also receive long-term mentorship, corporate adoption, and resources to further develop their projects.
